The year continues with another outstanding show from The Second Echo and this time at the faithful local venue, Nambucca. Exactly a year ago I organised a similar show to combined entertainment from the band and a celebration of my birthday. Last year, I was left speechless by the turnout and beyond exhausted from organising everything on top of doing the live sound, build up and the break down after everyone has left. Never again! This time I was there to watch and enjoy the beautiful music in great company.

The boys did not disappoint with a fantastic sounding set which finished on my favourite song – The Ripples. When you get the album later this year, you’ll know why. Think of Pink Floyd’s The Great Gig in the Sky meets Led Zeppelin! I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

Since my job as a producer and engineer is done now the album is finished, I get to spend more time with a camera taking photos at gigs. My Canon 5D MkIII was on me to take these snaps. Hope you like them!

Check out The Second Echo at www.secondecho.co.uk and follow the guys on Facebook and Twitter.

Marking the beginning of a fantastic year, The Second Echo start 2016 with a fantastically warm gig at The Islington, London to a room full of friends and fans. With the album now finished, the band are using these little gigs as warm up and practice for the big shows that are planned for later in the year when the album comes out.

The guys are on top form as I sneak around the front taking photos with my trusty Canon 5D MkIII with a Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD lens. I’m particularly happy with the way Joe’s hair action came out Not too bad even for a good shampoo advert or Vella sponsorship!

Follow the news and album launch on The Second Echo’s website at www.secondecho.co.uk, on Facebook and Instagram.

It’s always a pleasure working with friends and this day in just that! I’m at Snap Studios recording a string quartet group called Vaults Quartet for my dear friends Andy Nichol and Drew Mills who are DeadBeatDuke.

String sections are always fun. It’s organic, real, sympathetic. When the playing is right, all the pieces fall beautifully into place. Today we’ve had the added pleasure of Drew playing piano with the quartet live in the same room, while Andy is producing the performance and myself engineering.

I took the opportunity to take a few photos of the boys and girls. Andy’s face is full of stories and mystery much like the great man himself.

The Vaults Quartet are a function band with plenty of pedigree both individually and as a group. You can find out more about them by visiting their website at www.vaultsquartet.co.uk

DeadBeatDukes are a talented production duo specialising in soundtrack/score work. You can find out more about their work at www.deadbeatdukes.com

The Lexington is a brilliant venue. The PA and superb, the staff were really nice and the sound guy on the night knew what he was doing. The Rouge girls sounded superb and they could hear themselves well. This really makes all the differences for any performing musician and especially a band. The girls were on fire and the audience were simply amazing! They were applauding, cheering, making good noise and were fantastic to talk to afterwards. The girls sold loads of CDs and t-shirts, made new fans from Denmark and even got a strong following from the House of Commons!!! A group of MPs saw the girls perform at Rock The House and became immediate fans! They were also kind enough to drag their friends along for the right which they said they were grateful for. All in all – an awesome night! Go Rouge!!!

This is a pretty special gig for Rouge, or more specifically for Simone as it is part of her final assignment for her degree and she is being marked for it! Needless to say, Simone passed with flying colours! But equally as important, it was another brilliant show for the band with energies at their highest to date with only the council’s curfew stopping the show. It’s extremely rewarding and joyous to see the band and the act grow and improve with every show, and I await with anticipation every time to the next rehearsal and gig.

Westminster University’s sound department provided FOH support who I must mention as they have done a superb job! It is the first time that I’ve heard this particular room sounding this good! The brilliant audience of students, friends and fans are a phenomenal mix for a great night. In many ways, it’s like preaching to the converted, but there are plenty of minds to win over nevertheless.

Refusing to give back the out-of-this-world Canon 5D MkII to my dear friend, I’ve been privileged to use it again to snap a few action shots and another few of the pre-show dinner.

One of this summer’s gigs has taken Rouge to Reading to a fantastic new venue called The Bowery District supporting the superb Subways. Five minutes walk from Reading Rail Station, this brilliant place is a retro-club-turned-performace-venue featuring a very well stocked bar, polite staff and an awesome PA! I can’t stress enough how important it is for a band to be able to hear themselves properly on stage. Armed with an Avid Venue console, the house sound engineer did a splendid job on both the on-stage monitors and front of house.

The girls were on top form, giving the 300-strong sold out event a reason to jump and rock! The show went smoothly without any technical glitches. Rouge’s guitar tech, Tobias (Toby) Edward Hawthorne, was on-site flawlessly setting up Becky’s, Simone’s and Ruby’s guitars and bass rigs. Also assisting is the exceptionally talented Luke Crawford on merchandise. Between performing as Freddy Mercury with Rhapsody – Queen Tribute, Luke has been an incredible friend and rescued us on quite a few occasions with indispensable help.

I was particularly excited about this gig because I had a little secret weapon of my own – a Canon 5D MkII with three spectacular lenses which were graciously lent to me by a dear friend. My first attempt to shoot a live gig wasn’t without its hiccups, but I think I did get some delicious shots – especially of the Rouge Bear which made its debut at this show!

The search for London’s worst sound man continues with a gig Islington’s famous Garage (upstairs). The girls had one of the worst monitor mixes ever. They were real troopers and carried on with the gig despite not being able to hear each other, and I have to say that they performed exquisitely!

Due to the unusual placing of the stage, I finally had an opportunity to get close enough to Nicole the drummer and take a couple of snaps with my iPhone. With most venues having the lights down during a show, it is difficult to get a decent shot with a phone so far at the back of the stage.
